Lauralee Sengers Slocum, BHS '67, shared the sad news of the passing of her wonderful husband, Bill Slocum, BHS '64. We send our love and our deepest condolences to you and the family.

Here is a wonderful memorial message posted on Facebook by their son Jason:

It’s with a heavy heart that I inform you of the passing of my father, Bill Slocum, yesterday. He was surrounded by his family, who love him dearly. He was the best father anyone could ever hope for. He was my father, my friend and hero. Some of the best memories are of playing catch after he got home from work, and getting our cars ready for car shows when I was older. There is a hole left by his passing that time will never heal. He was our Rock, our Compass. Our Compass is gone, but he left a map to follow by the way he lived, lead by example, help others, love of family and to be kind. The bravery he showed through the years of being sick will stay with us forever. He is free of pain now, which is a blessing, and is with Grammy & Poppy.

If you don’t know, Dad worked for Disney for 38 years before retiring. He started with Disney in 1969 at an entry level position after my grandfather (who also worked there) suggested he interview. He said he was “a glorified gopher, really”. He retired in 2007 as the Director of Corporate Network Operations. He and his team were responsible for merging the infrastructure of ABC and Disney, the information systems for Animal Kingdom and Disney’s cruise ships Wonder and Magic, to name a few. He was the go-to for advice for many on his team, and enjoyed being the “Dad” at work.

He loved his family fiercely, and enjoyed the time with his grandkids the most. They will forever miss their Papa. We will miss our Dad and friend.

Thank you for taking the time and indulging this proud son of his. We were fortunate to have him as long as we did.
