Received sad news today from Annette Dinolfo Bennett that her close friend and neighbor Jennifer Todd passed away on July 1st. She was class of 1970. Her husband Ed passed away earlier and she has 3 children: Jeran Bogle, Ryan Todd and Jenna Todd who are all BHS graduates.
We pray for the Lord's comfort for her family and loved ones.

I’m sorry to inform you that Mike Humphrey passed away this morning. He had been on hospice due to melanoma cancer. He is survived by his brother Steve-BHS class of ‘71, his wife Linda and many nieces and nephews. He and Linda resided in central California.

Randi Nadine Nadler, cherished mother, grandmother, sister, and aunt, passed away peacefully on Monday, January 12, 2026, in Hendersonville, Tennessee. Born December 5, 1951, in Los Angeles, California, she was the daughter of the late Bernard Fishkin and Judith Dann Fishkin. Randi lived a vibrant life full of passion and determination.
As a mother to her daughters Aileen (Dave) Barker and Michelle (James) Nadler-London, Randi exemplified strength and dedication. She took immense joy in being a grandmother to Harper, a role she treasured deeply. Harper brought her boundless joy, and she loved every moment spent with her.
Randi was known for her headstrong and determined personality. She was never one to shy away from giving her opinion, and her quick wit often left those around her in laughter. She approached life with a bold spirit and an unwavering confidence that inspired those fortunate enough to know her.\
Among her many interests, Randi found great pleasure in traveling, making jewelry, and celebrating the timeless music of Elvis Presley. These hobbies were reflective of her vibrant personality and her zest for life.
Randi is also survived by her beloved sister, Beth Fishkin Sanders, and her adoring nieces, Stephanie Lauren Sanders, Alexandra Melanie Sanders, and Brittanie Ilene Sanders, along with her great-niece, Bryce Judith Sanders. The bonds she formed with her family were strong, and her legacy will continue to live on through them.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her longtime partner Steven Hall.
As we remember Randi, we celebrate a life that touched many hearts, a spirit that was never afraid to be herself, and the unforgettable memories she created with her loved ones. Her presence will be sorely missed, but her love and the lessons she imparted will remain forever in our hearts.

OBITUARY Stephen Clift LeSueur January 6, 1952 – July 1, 2025
Stephen Clift LeSueur, 73, died at home in Arlington, Virginia, on July 1, 2025, after a two-year battle with pancreatic cancer.
Born
on January 6, 1952, in Los Angeles, California, Steve was the second
child of John and Dolores Clift LeSueur. Steve grew up in Burbank,
California, with his brothers David and Jeff and his sister Diana. He
married Kathleen Reeder on March 26, 1986, in Washington, Utah. They
moved from Salt Lake City, Utah, to Arlington, Virginia, in 1989 and
have lived in the Glencarlyn neighborhood ever since.
Steve
received undergraduate degrees in history and psychology from Brigham
Young University, a master’s degree in history from George Mason
University, and was an economics teaching fellow at the University of
Utah. During his college years he served as a missionary in Norway for
the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints.
Steve pursued a
career as a journalist and magazine editor, working for various defense
and technology publications. In addition, he was a published author and
highly regarded Mormon historian. His first book, The 1838 Mormon War in
Missouri, (University of Missouri Press, 1987) won the 1987 Best Book
award from the John Whitmer Historical Association. More recently, he
wrote Life and Death on the Mormon Frontier: The Murders of Frank
LeSueur and Gus Gibbons by the Wild Bunch (Greg Kofford Books, 2023).
His essays and articles on Mormon history have been published in
numerous journals and books. His final book, Every Man a Prophet (Greg
Kofford Books, 2025) was a novel exploring missionary life.
Steve’s
generosity, enthusiasm, wit and varied skills made him a valued
contributor to community activities. These included editing school and
neighborhood newsletters, coaching his children’s recreation basketball
teams from elementary through high school, and, most recently, helping
to organize a speakers program at his local library branch.
His
sense of humor and sincere interest in people made Steve a favorite of
many extended LeSueur and Reeder family members, especially children. He
organized card games, devised backyard athletic competitions, filmed
impromptu musical performances and played elaborate jokes that are now
legendary contributions to family lore. He encouraged a love of animals,
most especially cats, hamsters, guinea pigs and rats, teaching his
children to love, appreciate and care for them. His inclusion of his
family’s cats as characters in lively bedtime stories highlighted his
creativity and sense of humor. He welcomed summer visits from nieces and
nephews, sharing his knowledge of history on numerous visits to local
monuments and museums.
For two years, Steve endured a difficult
regimen of treatments to fight pancreatic cancer. His courage,
determination, optimism, graciousness and sense of humor were evident as
he looked for ways to continue enjoying life. He spent time with family
and friends, participated in community activities, attended jazz and
theater performances, and traveled to New York, South Carolina,
California, Utah, Colorado and Oregon. He made final edits to his novel
and arranged for its publication in 2025.
Steve is survived by his
wife, Kathy Reeder; his children Samantha and Daniel; his sister Diana
(Randy) Bartlett; and brother Jeff. He was preceded in death by his
parents, John and Dolores Clift LeSueur, and his older brother David.
A
celebration of life will be held on August 2 from 2:00 – 5:00 p.m. at
Ireland’s Four Courts, 2051 Wilson Blvd, Arlington VA 22201.

Linda
Westkamp Dubrall passed away in July of 2024. She had been suffering
from kidney failure for many years . Linda lived in Simi Valley with her
husband Douglas and they had four children: Dustin, Darryl, Dave and
Deanne.
Larry Appleton was a life long Burbank resident He died in his sleep in the childhood home
he shared with his older brother, Levi who still resides in the home and is his only
surviving relative.
Sad news... Joe Moss passed away this morning, March 17, 2025. He was in hospice care after battling brain tumors for many years.
Joe served in the Air Force right after his 1970 graduation. He was previously married to Janis Bustrum, BHS class of ‘69 and they have two daughters and two grandchildren. Joe was living in Long Beach. Please keep the family in your prayers.

Our dad died of brain cancer when Lissa was only 1 and I was
nearly 10 and our mom remarried when I was 13. She was left with 4
daughters and was only 34. Kind of scary . We all thought our dad was
our hero! He had worked for the FBI and I even have a letter from J.
Edgar Hoover congratulating my parents on my birth. My grandson took it
to school for show and tell once!
When Mom remarried, Lissa became mine! She would toddle down the hall
and climb in bed with me and we’ve been best of friends ever since. I
will miss her greatly. But she was a strong Christian and is with Jesus
now so I wouldn’t wish her back! I can tell you that because I know
you understand. What would we do without our “blessed hope?”
Melissa has
two daughters, Heather and Holeigh, who is married
to Todd Holmes and has two children, Myah and Evan. There will be a
memorial in a few weeks.

Sherman Deutch, MD was born August 5, 1952, in Tyler, Texas, to Sherman
and Lois Dixon Deutch. His father was a lawyer and his mother a
secretary.
He
was raised in Burbank, California, where he attended public schools.
Dave didn't play sports at his high school but as a fifteen-year-old, he
pitched a perfect game for a local recreation league team. "They
couldn't hit my fifteen mile-per-hour fastball," Dave would quip with a
wink. During this time he forged a bond with a dozen or so friends known
to themselves as the Deutch Gang. They held forth in Dave's garage,
buoyed by music, pool, high jinx, and conversation. According to one
member, "It was a cross between the serenity of Walden Pond and the
atmosphere of Cheers, where everyone not only knew your name but who you
were deep down inside." The fifty-year connection between members
continues to this day.
Dave
attended the University of California at Davis where he majored in
physiology and went on to earn his degree in medicine and ophthalmology.
He practiced ophthalmology for thirty years in Eugene, Oregon, and
Cottonwood, Arizona.
Dave
and his wife, Chris Clarke, met while working together at PeaceHealth.
A mutual interest in ballroom dancing led to dance classes and then
moved on to collaborating on home improvement projects. Finding they
could navigate challenging partnerships such as these with ease, Dave
and Chris made it permanent by marrying in 2009. The joy found in their
friendship spilled over onto all who knew them. Chris describes Dave as a
remarkable man whose kindness and love radiated through every moment
they shared. His adventurous spirit and sharp intelligence inspired
those around him, while his sense of humor could light up any room. She
remembers him as the best dancer in the world, effortlessly making her
feel like a princess every time they took the dance floor together. "His
memory will forever be cherished in my heart", says Chris.
Due
to the ravages of Parkinson's Disease on mind and body, Dave passed
peacefully at home on December 14, 2024 surrounded by those who loved
him dearly. Even in decline, the extent of Dave's influence cannot be
overestimated. It was seen in his concern with how everyone else around
him was doing. Dave was unfailingly kind, but honest ... with a sharp
wit, ready for real conversation on wide ranging topics. He was an avid
traveler and constant learner, expanding his knowledge and game for
adventure. He loved gathering friends together for good food, excellent
drinks, carefully selected music, and good times. His calm demeanor,
welcoming personality, and mischievous grin with a twinkling eye,
endeared him to patients, family members, colleagues, and friends ...
many of whom regarded Dave as their best friend.
Dave
loved being a father and his daughters were bright spots in his life.
Ashley's words: "I idolized my dad growing up. He was active, funny,
creative, and outgoing. He never nagged us, and I was never afraid to
tell him what was going on in my life. He made me feel comfortable going
to him with problems. I knew that he would help me with anything and I
would not feel judged for it. Dad was always making things fun and
creative for us. When I was in college, we made an entertainment center
together out of copper piping. It's moved from Eugene to Denver to
Seattle and to Bend with me. It's still in my living room. I think of
the fun we had making it together often. Dad also came with me to buy my
first fake ID on the street in San Francisco!"
And
Emily: "He led by example, never putting any pressure on us to be a
certain way, but because he was so great, we wanted to be like him in
many ways. My dad is one of the easiest people to be around. He was fun
without being overbearing or attention seeking. He always had a
well-timed joke and was charming in an unassuming type of way. He
treated people well, everyone. I'm not sure that I've ever met a less
judgmental person. He sees the good in everyone and had friendships with
people with vastly different world views, bringing people together. He
was highly intelligent and accomplished yet also the antithesis of a
snob, genuine and incredibly down to earth."
Dave
is lovingly remembered by his wife, Chris Clarke; daughters Emily
Harris (Joey Janssen) and Ashley Sapin (Bennett Sapin); stepdaughters
Jillian Munro and Kelsey Clarke (Tony DePiano) and stepson Reiley Clarke
(Hannah Clarke); brother Steve Deutch and sister Diana Thorton (Russell
Thornton) and five grandchildren. (Loretta, Thatcher, Cooper, Quinn,
and Elena).
Due
to his love of science and learning, Dave requested his body be donated
to OHSU Medical School. Donations in Dave's memory can be made to
Parkinson's Resources of Oregon or End of Life Choices of Oregon.

Alan Arthur Landros June 25, 1952 - December 31, 2023
I
am so sorry to deliver the sad news that our dear friend, Alan Landros,
passed away on December 31, 2023. Alan fought his cancer diagnosis with
determination and grit.
Alan was born on June 25, 1952 to
Marion and Martin at California Lutheran Hospital in Los Angeles . He
was an only child and was raised in Burbank. He attended Jefferson
Elementary, John Muir junior high and Burbank high schools. He then
graduated from CSULA with a degree in police science. Alan became an
investigator while working at Forest Lawn as well as a security position
at Arco Oil.
Alan unfortunately inherited his mother’s poly
cystic kidney disease which greatly restricted his life. He was granted a
second chance at a full life when his classmate, Blyden Loutensock,
stepped up and donated his kidney to Alan. Blyden and Alan shared a life
long unbreakable bond.
To adequately describe Alan is a
daunting task. He was a gentleman with a deep Christian faith, a car
lover who enjoyed purchasing new cars throughout his life, a world
traveler, a tale teller and somewhat of a perfectionist.
He was also the class historian of our BHS 1970 class and he could recall minute details of most everyone’s life that he knew.
The
unfortunate consequence of being an organ recipient is the side effects
of the anti-rejection medicine that was crucial. It suppresses the
immune system which led to his many skin cancer surgeries and ultimately
to his stage 4 diagnosis.
Alan will be deeply missed by his many, many friends from church, school, his neighborhood and life .
His memorial service is pending and I will provide the information on this platform as soon as they are determined .

Hello again-
I wanted to let everyone know that Alan’s memorial service will be held on February 6th at Forest Lawn Hollywood Hills which is just outside of Burbank
The time is noon and the doors open at 11:30. The location is the Old North Church which is at the far right rear of the cemetery. It’s a red brick building. A short graveside service will follow. Alan’s grave is a short walking distance from the church.
There will be a reception after the service . The location is yet to be determined but I will post it as soon as we know. It would be very helpful to us if you could let us know if you will be attending the reception. We need to give an estimate of how many will be joining us.

Linda Sherbert Adams I feel honored to have been able to see him in ICU last week by chance while visiting another friend there, and meet Blyden. Alan was certainly one of a kind. We got to know him when he contacted my mother in law, Doris Adams, his high school art teacher. He visited her before her death in 2018, and came to her service. He also came to a party at our house. His knowledge and historian skills are unmatched. We have truly lost a treasure. 🙏🙏🙏😘❤️

Charmaine Chastain Alan was a long time friend. We met because when sitting alphabetically in class, we were always sat next to each other. Alan even talked me into taking Latin and joining the Latin Club at BHS 😉. Alan shared many life events with me...my wedding, the birth of my children, his parents' memorials, my mother's passing and the crossing over of many of many of our pets to name a few. Alan cared deeply about his family & friends and was there to always support them. This photo is the BHSers that were at a get-together for Alan's 50th in 2002 birthday at Genio's in Burbank. In typical Alan form, he went around the table of 30+ people and shared anecdotes of each one's friendship with him. What a gift he was. Alan will be greatly missed by so many. Rest is peace Alan, rest in peace. 💙

It has been mentioned that he was the historian for his high school class, but he was also for the all school years. It seemed like he knew everyone, including their parents, brothers and sisters. If you asked him a question he did not have to look anything up, he had total recall. When I was writing the Burbank Senior Bulldog newsletter he was editing it. I made a lot of mistakes, and he found everyone one of them. He was not happy until it was perfect! Rest in peace my friend! Burbank will not be the same without you.🥲🙏❤

Victoria Hampton I have no words for the extreme sorrow I feel at hearing of Alan’s passing. He was a very special person. There was no one he didn’t call friend whether he knew you well or not. He reached out to keep in contact with as many people as possible from high school or anywhere where friends could be made. He’s one of those people who had the ability to make such an impact of love/kindness because of his infectious personality. A very sad day, but I’m happy to have known him; his gift to many of us.

It was mind-boggling as to how he knew so many people in Burbank, where they lived, their siblings and even their parents. No one can ever fill his shoes! I want to thank Joyce Starleaf, Blyden Loutensock, Gary Bric and all the other devoted friends who were there for him everyday. Thank you, Joyce, for bringing Alan to the Sr Bulldog lunch a couple of months ago. It gave all of us the chance to give him a hug and silently say our good byes. God bless you, Alan. I wouldn't be surprised if He puts you in charge of all the Burbank Angels, since you probably know most of them already!
Cathy Coyle Alan most certainly will become a legend to all who knew him. He had an amazing talent for remembering the most minute of details of just about everyone in Burbank. He most certainly had a heart of gold & was kind to everyone. He had the most caring nature & would spend time, & look in on many of our classmates parents; since they had moved out of the area. When I had worked on editing the Sr. Bulldog Newsletter with him, his editing skills were unmatched. Although he was an only child, he had an enormous amount of friends that became family. He was a vegetarian & I was amazed how he could make a meal out of onions on a hotdog bun, with a side of beans. I remember one time when he came over it was time to go. We ended up sitting on our lampposts in the front yard for hours just talking. He was such a wealth of information. I always wondered what the neighbors thought as several of them drove by a couple times. I am comforted that he was a man of faith & that he will now be with our Lord & his beloved parents. I still can’t believe he is gone. We are all blessed to have known him.

Sad news... Village Christian School posted the following on Facebook...
For more than 40 years, former teacher, administrator, mentor, and friend Tom Nare served with a heart of passion and love for his students and community. He retired from VCS in 2020 beloved by students and staff alike.
As you may have heard, Mr. Nare passed away peacefully in his sleep Tuesday evening. He was 71. Please join us in celebrating his extraordinary life and impact here at VCS and in praying for his family during this difficult time.
We will provide details regarding his memorial when they become available. In the meantime, if you have memories you’d like us to share with the family, please email them to connect@villagechristian.org.
