Rogue Valley Funeral Alternatives
Van Hoye, George Thomas, 69, of Medford, Oregon, passed away May 24, 2015 at Providence Medford Medical Center. He was born in Alderson, West Virginia to Charles and Azelda (Burns) Van Hoye.

Dad served in the U.S Marine Corp and fought in Vietnam. After the service he began his love for riding motorcycles and loved the ape hanger Harley Davidson. He loved riding and spending time outside while camping, fishing or going on walks, especially in the desert. He collected coins and enjoyed working out, but the thing that really meant a lot to him was rebuilding his 51’ Chevy pick up truck.

He fell in love with Kimberly Grinstead and became a father of two. He was a proud dad that always showed his kids the correct way of doing things and taught them manners and to treat people with respect. He worked hard in life to support his family no matter what he had to do. Family meant the world to him, he taught us, that without family you have nobody. Dad also loved animals, at times it seemed as if he could talk to them. He had a good heart and would do anything for anyone who needed him.

George is survived by a son Daniel (Somer) Van Hoye, their children Kryztian Van Hoye, Nevaeh Van Hoye and Rayven Boatwright. Daughter Tasey Graves and children Kyle Graves, Kira Graves, Michael Glockling and

Anna Glockling. He is also survived by his girlfriend Cindy McJunkin, a sister Wanda Morris, and a brother Will Van Hoye.

A committal service will be held Friday June 12, 2015 at 3:00 PM at Eagle Point National Cemetery.

Arrangements under the direction of Rogue Valley Funeral Alternatives, Medford, OR.

Krista Leanne Warner posted March 24, 2026

Yesterday we a very hard day as heaven gained a new angel.  I love my Dad, Scott Schweitzer so much!  He was a great man!  He was always cracking jokes, expressing his love, and doing anything he could to help someone out. He took us camping, snowboarding, wakeboarding, many beach trips, and so much more to make sure we loved the outdoors as much as he did. I can't listen to Bob Marley without thinking of our drives to Ventura and finding our secluded spot on the beach. He always looked at the bright side of things- with a motto "it could be worse." I already miss him😭🙏 I love you Dad🙏❤️. Hope you're eating great meals and running around like crazy now🫶🥹

David Foster King
September 27, 1942 - February 1, 2026

Today on Facebook Wendy King Bentley shared this sad news with link to the obituary...

"Sad to announce the passing of my father, David Foster King. BHS alumni 1960. Funeral is tomorrow in Burbank. He was a very active citizen in Burbank for many many years. Many people loved him."

David Foster King
September 27, 1942 — February 1, 2026
Saint Charles, MO

David Foster King, a beloved husband, father, grandfather, and friend, passed away on February 1, 2026, in St. Louis, Missouri, at the age of 83. Born on September 27, 1942, in Ogden, Utah, David’s life was a testament to his unwavering faith in his Lord Jesus Christ, his devotion to family, and his lifelong commitment to serving others.

As a young man, David faithfully served a mission for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in the Netherlands from 1961 through 1964. This formative experience shaped his testimony and laid the foundation for a life guided by faith, service, and love for others.

Education was paramount to David, who earned his Bachelor of Science in Accounting from Brigham Young University. He lived a life of honorable service, marked by loyalty, faithfulness, and integrity, standing as a true testament to his beliefs and the principles of the Gospel of Jesus Christ.

For over three decades, David was managing partner at King, King, Alleman & Jensen Accountancy Corporation in Burbank, California. In this role, he earned the admiration and trust of countless clients who relied on his expertise to guide them through their finances. His career was not just about numbers; it was about building relationships rooted in honesty and integrity, reflecting the man he was at his core.

David’s accomplishments extended far beyond his professional life. He was deeply involved in scouting, earning the rank of Eagle Scout and receiving the prestigious Silver Beaver Award. His devotion to the community was evident through his long-standing membership in the Kiwanis Club of Burbank, where he proudly served as president in 1983 during the memorable “King Size” year. David served as a Bishop in the Burbank First Ward from 1991 through 1996. He cherished the opportunity to help his ward members come closer to Jesus Christ while serving in this capacity. He also honored his call to be a Sealer in the Nauvoo Illinois Temple where he was able to seal and link couples and families for eternity in the House of the Lord.

Outside of work, David cherished time spent in nature, finding joy in hiking, fishing, camping, and golfing. He delighted in summer vacations with his family, creating memories that will be treasured for generations. A devoted baseball fan, he especially loved attending Dodger games, sharing his enthusiasm for the sport with family and friends.

David held his family close to his heart. He is survived by his devoted wife of 61 years, Joyce Powers King, whom he married on September 11, 1964. Together, they raised a beautiful family, including their son Lance King (Melanie); daughter Cynthia Gifford (Shaun); son Patrick King; daughter Wendy Bentley (Jon); and son David King (JoAnna). His legacy continues through his 14 grandchildren: Samantha Stuart (Cole), Patrick King (Ally), Brian King, Emily King, Matthew King, Miranda Gifford, Evan Bentley, David Bentley, Loria King, Ella Bentley, Kevin Gifford, Colin King, Steven Bentley, Evelyn King, and 6 great-grandchildren, Jane Stuart, Tommy Stuart, Marci Stuart, Emmett King, Lydia Stuart, Elliot King - all of whom adored him and carry forward his love and example.

He is also survived by his loving brothers, Dennis King (Patti), and Leon King (Cecilie), along with many extended family members and dear friends.

David was preceded in death by his cherished son, Patrick King, who passed away in 1983 at the age of 8; his parents, Carl and Virginia King; and his siblings Wallace King, Larry King, and Sharon Mortenson. He is remembered not only for his accomplishments but for the warmth, kindness, and quiet strength he brought into the lives of those around him.

Services honoring David will be held on February 20, 2026, at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, located at 136 N. Sunset Canyon Drive, Burbank, California. The viewing will begin at 9:30am followed by a Celebration of Life service at 11:00am followed by a graveside service for family and close friends at Forest Lawn Hollywood Hills Cemetery.

As we say goodbye to David Foster King, we hold dear the lessons he imparted and the love he shared. He leaves behind a legacy rooted in faith, family, and friendship—forever cherished in our hearts.

Glen Haws, BHS '53 (1935-2026)

Glen Walter Haws
September 24, 1935 - February 4, 2026

Bob Haws posted this touching tribute to honor his father on Facebook today...

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of our father, Glen Walter Haws, who passed away on February 4, 2026, at the age of 90.

Glen was born on September 24, 1935, in Burbank, California, at the home of his grandparents, to parents Glen and Maxine (Odermatt) Haws. A lifelong resident of Burbank, he took great pride in the city that shaped him. One of his favorite childhood stories was serving as paperboy to heavyweight boxing champion Jeff Jeffries — a story he never tired of telling.

He attended Burbank High School, where he met the love of his life, Beverly (Danell) Haws. After graduating in 1953, Glen enlisted in the United States Marine Corps. Following boot camp at Camp Pendleton, he returned home to elope with his 17-year-old sweetheart before being deployed to Japan and Korea. In 1956, they welcomed their first son, John, while living in a trailer at Camp Pendleton.

After his honorable discharge from the Marines in 1956, Glen worked as an apprentice machinist at Mitchell Cameras in Glendale before achieving what he considered his true calling. On September 1, 1957, he was hired as a firefighter for the City of Burbank — becoming a proud second-generation Burbank firefighter, following in the footsteps of his father, who joined the department in 1943.

In those early years, when firefighter pay was modest, Glen worked multiple jobs to provide for his growing family. He drove his Model A Ford pickup to local dairies, loaded it with manure, and sold it door-to-door, spreading it on lawns throughout the neighborhood. He also worked as a plasterer and painter — doing whatever it took to build a stable life for his family.

In 1959, their second son, James, was born. The following year, Glen purchased a home on Kenneth Road in Burbank, where he would live for the rest of his life. Robert was born in 1962, and their daughter Linda (Wright) in 1968, completing their family of four children.

Over his 40-year career with the Burbank Fire Department, Glen rose through the ranks, promoting to Engineer and later to Captain in 1973. Being a firefighter was not just his profession — it was his dream. He loved the camaraderie, the service, and the stories that came with the job. Though he retired in 1998 due to a medical condition, it was a career he never truly wanted to leave.

Glen was a storyteller at heart. He cherished sharing memories of growing up in Burbank and recounting his years on the fire department. His life was rooted in family, hard work, and dedication to his community.

He is survived by his children: John and daughter-in-law Kathy; Robert and daughter-in-law Terrie; and Linda and son-in-law Mark Wright; seven grandchildren; eleven great-grandchildren; and his sister, Donna Edwards. He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Beverly, in 2009, and his son James in 2025.

Glen’s legacy lives on in the family he built, the city he loved, and the department he proudly served.

Rich Bison, BHS '66 (1947-2026)

Richard Allan Bison
October 15, 1947 - February 12, 2026

Sad news... we just learned that Rich Bison, BHS '66, passed away this week. His daughter, Heather Bison Lewis, posted on Facebook this touching note...

It is with the heaviest heart that we share that the world lost a true hero. My dad passed away on February 12th at 11:53pm.

He went in for surgery on Tuesday and fought so incredibly hard since September. If there’s one thing that defined him, it was that he was a fighter. Strong, determined, and never one to give up.

He was a proud veteran who loved his country deeply. His patriotism was part of who he was. He believed in service, loyalty, and standing up for what mattered.

He was the BEST husband, dad, Grampa, father-in-law, and friend anyone could ever ask for. Larger than life. The kind of man who filled a room with his presence, his strength, his humor, and his love. Our hearts are shattered and we are still trying to process this unimaginable loss.

Please keep my mom in your thoughts and prayers as she navigates the days ahead. She will be staying with me for a while as we lean on each other and take this one day at a time.

We will be planning a celebration of life at a later date and will share details once they are arranged.

Thank you to everyone who has reached out, prayed, and supported our family. It truly means more than we can say.

We love you forever, Dad. ❤️

OBITUARY
Edwin Charles James was born on September 7th, 1945, in Burbank, California just days after the end of World War II.

His parents, Elleen (Givan) and William James, owned and operated an apartment complex in Burbank, California where Ed was raised, and there Ed learned how to fix anything and everything while he helped his parents maintain their apartments, skills that he would use all his life.

He graduated from Burbank High School in 1963 followed by Glendale City College in 1965, obtaining an Associates of Science degree in mechanical drawing. He joined the US Air Force in March 1966 and completed basic training at Lackland Air Force Base as an Airman Second Class, followed by advanced training in Air Training Command in Denver. He was stationed at George Air Force base with the 329th Fighter Interceptor Squadron, in Southern California and eventually being promoted to Airman 2nd Class before being deployed to Phan Rang Air Force Base in South Vietnam during 1967 as part of the 435th Munitions Maintenance Squadron. While in Vietnam he was promoted to Sergeant, and in 1968 was transferred back to California to the Strategic Air Command training center as part to the 93rd Bombardment Wing at Castle Air Force Base, in Merced, California, where he was an instructor for replacement training units for the B-52 Stratofortress.

After leaving the Air Force, he returned to Burbank and worked 7 years for the City of Burbank water department as a draftsman, before moving his young family to the Northern California town of Auburn, to be near his in-laws. There Ed and family lived in Roseville while they built a house in Ophir, and he later participated in 4H at Ophir Elementary School as a leader for the shooting sports and woodworking programs. When younger son Dean was in the Del Oro High School Band, Ed volunteered his support.

In 2000, he donated his kidney to his oldest son Erik at the UC Davis Med Center, featured as a Father’s Day story on KCRA news, making Ed a brief celebrity around Auburn. During that time, he worked for 25 years for Nevada Irrigation District at the Placer County Yard in Gold Hill, as a maintenance worker and then foreman for the Placer maintenance crew, finally retiring in 2002.

After retirement of his wife Jo Ann in 2009, they moved to Grants Pass, Oregon, where they made many friends, and enjoyed the company of many visitors. Ed and Jo Ann were volunteers at the Josephine Community Library, with Ed employing his maintenance skills developed in his youth. They traveled widely, including trips to Australia, China, Europe, and the Mediterranean. Last year, they returned to Placer County, moving to Lincoln, to be closer to family.

He is survived by his wife, Jo Ann (Knight), son Erik James, daughter in-law Theresa, and granddaughter Bridget of Lincoln and grandson William of Berkeley, California; and his son Dean James, daughter-in-law Cyndi, and granddaughter Alicyn Shea of Rocklin; and his brother William James, sister-in-law Sharon, and niece Sherry Owens of La Crescenta, California.
