Free Used BHS Band Uniforms

Mrs. Cavanaugh sent me this note and I offered to post it here:

“I’ve been the BHS Band director the last 6 years and I retired the old marching band uniforms. I’d like to be able to offer them to BHS marching band alumni before offering them anywhere else. Do you know of any places where I could post that we were giving away the old marching band uniforms?”

Please pass the word… here is her email address:

Joyce Powers King, BHS '61 (1943-2026)

Joyce Powers King
July 9, 1943 — May 25, 2026

Joyce King Powers, passed away peacefully at home, surrounded by her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren, on May 25, 2026, in St. Charles, Missouri. She left behind a legacy rich with love, faith, and creativity. Born on July 9, 1943, in Orange, Orange County, California, and raised in Burbank, Joyce’s life was a testament to warmth, devotion, and the bright spirit she shared with all who knew her.

Joyce was a dedicated stay-at-home mother and homemaker whose talents knew no bounds. She had a remarkable flair for decorating, blending creativity and care in every detail of her home. Whether transforming rooms or designing exquisite Christmas décor to share during the holiday season, her keen eye and artistic touch brought sunshine into the lives of her family and friends. Joyce was an exceptional seamstress and craftswoman. She sewed her own stunning wedding dress, and she took great joy in crocheting afghans for family and friends. Joyce also lovingly donated countless afghans to a cancer center in Illinois while she lived in Nauvoo for 20 years.

Music touched Joyce’s soul deeply. Known for her sweet voice and love of singing, she carried the joy of song from her youth. Joyce performed the leading roles in high school musicals at Burbank High School.

Above all, Joyce was a woman of profound faith. She devoted herself tirelessly to teaching the gospel of Jesus Christ to her children, instilling in them a personal testimony rooted in scripture. Her children, shaped by faith and example, embraced the gospel fully. They hold dear the inspired words found in Alma: “They had been taught by their mother, that if they did not doubt, God would deliver them...We doubt not our mother knew it.” This scripture speaks volumes of her guiding strength and spiritual wisdom. Joyce’s many hours spent in church service, coupled with her endless acts of kindness, reflected her unwavering commitment as a beloved member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.

Genealogy and family history were passions that allowed Joyce to bridge past and present. With tireless dedication, she brought ancestors’ stories to life, connecting generations through love and faith. She has surely been joyfully reunited with not only her late husband and son but also thousands of ancestors grateful for her efforts in linking them eternally within God’s family through temple work.

Joyce’s family was her greatest treasure. She is survived by her cherished children: Lance King (Melanie), Cynthia Gifford (Shaun), Wendy Bentley (Jon), and David Powers King (JoAnna). Her legacy continues through her beloved grandchildren—Samantha King Stuart (Cole), Patrick King (Ally), Brian King, Emily King, Matthew King, Miranda Gifford, Evan Bentley, David Bentley, Loria King, Ella Bentley, Kevin Gifford, Steven Bentley, and Evelyn King—and her precious great-grandchildren: Jane Stuart, Thomas Stuart, Marci Stuart, Emmett King, Lydia Stuart, and Elliot King. Joyce is also survived by loving nieces and nephews, countless friends, cousins Kathi and Tim Powers, and her wonderful King in-laws, all of whom were deeply touched by her generosity and radiant personality.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 61 years, David Foster King, and their son, Patrick Foster King, as well as her parents Wilbur and Fay Rene Powers and sister Clarice Tucker.

Joyce King was a beacon of light—sunshine personified—with a bright, loving, and inviting nature that made everyone feel at home. Her kindness, faith, artistry, and love nurtured not only her family but the countless lives she touched. As we remember her, we honor her strength to endure and to hope and a spirit that will forever inspire.

Family, friends, and loved ones will gather to celebrate Joyce’s life at Forest Lawn – Hollywood Hills, 6300 Forest Lawn Drive, Los Angeles, California 90068, with visitation from 10:00 AM to 11:15 AM followed by the graveside service from 12:30 PM until 1:00 PM on June 20, 2026.

Though we say goodbye in this world, and look to the day when we will meet at Jesus' feet, her memory and love endure eternally in the hearts of those fortunate to know her.

Lynne Zekaria Parish, BHS '61 (1943-2026)

Lynne Zekaria Parish
December 13, 1943 - April 2, 2026

On April 2nd, 2026, Lynne Parish lost her long fight with dementia and passed away in Carson City. She lived 82 amazing years! As many know, Lynne lived a long and wonderful life, in which she always put others first.

Lynne was born December 13th, 1943, in Glendale, California. She lived with her parents in Burbank, attended Burbank high school, and graduated in 1961.

She attended two years of college in Glendale; at the same time, she became interested in the theater and became an actor in the Burbank Little Theater Group. They put on productions in various local towns and in cities around the United States. Lynne found it very enjoyable to be traveling with friends and presenting plays around the country.

She honed her skills while portraying her best character, which was a Halloween witch, wearing her black hat and black tooth and sounding her intimidating cackle, which has scared off many “trick-or-treaters” since. While living at home in Burbank, Lynne assisted her father who owned and operated several Southern California local “Windsor” women’s clothing stores.

She married a neighbor boy Richard, in 1969, moved to Huntington Beach, and spent a few more years in Southern California before she and Richard moved to Carson City, Nevada in 1972. In 1976, Lynne gave birth to their first and only child, Rob.

Until her passing, Lynne’s focus was on her family, first her son and husband as well as close aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces and nephews. She also had many lifelong friends who were family to her. Later her focus turned to her grandkids, whom she adored. She also prioritized her close-knit family friend circle, her women’s weekend group, her First United Methodist church group, and her women’s International Film group.

Lynne remained in Carson and enjoyed frequent visits to Southern California, with many adventures along the way. As a young adult she voyaged to the Middle East to visit extended family. As a young mother and wife, she traveled extensively through the North American West. Later in life she traveled with Rob, and Kelli and Rich throughout Central America, New

Zealand, Australia and then multiple trips throughout Europe.

She took immense joy in helping others and in finding small and large ways to make her many family and friends happy.

She had a strong sense of responsibility and wanting to take care of those around her, while at the same time maintaining a fun and silly side that showed through daily. If Lynne was around family or friends, and especially if she had a beautiful view, she was delighted. She made the most of her days, gave to others easily and without wanting in return. Comfortable at home, Lynne traveled extensively too, throughout the United States, and all over the world. She was the most content at her place in Huntington Harbor, or immersed in an exciting journey, both surrounded by family and friends.

Many will remember the kind deeds she did for them, as well as her contagious laugh and peaceful smile. She always wanted to make her parents, Albert and Din Zekaria, proud, and she did that in droves.

She is survived by her husband Rich, her son Rob, daughter-in-law Kelli, grandsons Riley and Logan, and brother Rick Zekaria, as well as all her cousins, family and friends who were so near and dear to her heart.

There will be a service at the First United Methodist Church in Carson City, Nevada on Sunday, May 24th at 3pm, with a reception to follow. All who knew Lynne are welcome to attend. There will also be a “post party” at Great Basin Brewery starting at 6pm on the 24th. All who knew Lynne are invited.

Please spread the word. We love and miss you every day, Nonni.

Van Hoye, George Thomas, 69, of Medford, Oregon, passed away May 24, 2015 at Providence Medford Medical Center. He was born in Alderson, West Virginia to Charles and Azelda (Burns) Van Hoye.

Dad served in the U.S Marine Corp and fought in Vietnam. After the service he began his love for riding motorcycles and loved the ape hanger Harley Davidson. He loved riding and spending time outside while camping, fishing or going on walks, especially in the desert. He collected coins and enjoyed working out, but the thing that really meant a lot to him was rebuilding his 51’ Chevy pick up truck.

He fell in love with Kimberly Grinstead and became a father of two. He was a proud dad that always showed his kids the correct way of doing things and taught them manners and to treat people with respect. He worked hard in life to support his family no matter what he had to do. Family meant the world to him, he taught us, that without family you have nobody. Dad also loved animals, at times it seemed as if he could talk to them. He had a good heart and would do anything for anyone who needed him.

Yesterday we a very hard day as heaven gained a new angel.  I love my Dad, Scott Schweitzer so much!  He was a great man!  He was always cracking jokes, expressing his love, and doing anything he could to help someone out. He took us camping, snowboarding, wakeboarding, many beach trips, and so much more to make sure we loved the outdoors as much as he did. I can't listen to Bob Marley without thinking of our drives to Ventura and finding our secluded spot on the beach. He always looked at the bright side of things- with a motto "it could be worse." I already miss him😭🙏 I love you Dad🙏❤️. Hope you're eating great meals and running around like crazy now🫶🥹
