My friend, Kent
I spent a lot of time with Kent growing up, especially around the gym. Our family was close to his. Kent was an incredible athlete; early on, 7th grade perhaps, he had Elgin Baylor moves. He did not possess all of the speed in the world, but he his skills made him a standout playing baseball or throwing touch down passes. He had to be one of my funniest friends. He would entertain and crack us up on many bus rides with his imitations and singing the words to almost any song. Does Herman Hermits ring a bell? He always seemed to be a gentleman as big and powerful as I knew him to be on and off the court. We started together as guards on the basketball team our junior year, so I missed him dearly not playing with him during our senior year as I miss him now, as I reminisce about all of the fun, the laughs and the incredible highlights he provided us playing sports. I am sad Kent left us so soon, but know he will continue to bring kindness and joy to those around him. RIP my friend.

One of my closest friends at Muir and BHS. We spent many summers at McCambridge Park honing our basketball skills. He ways always good for a laugh. I remember his favorite line was " geeze Tolnay. I can look at the senior picture shown and tell he was getting ready to say something sarcastic. RIP Nebs.

Not sure what to make of lately all our classmates leaving us. My heart goes out to everyone! Who would of ever thought I'd still be around, and I never been in a hospital for any illness! I still feel like a kid. I know no one goes without God's doing. If we're all here for a purpose, then I guess when we go, our job is done. I just wonder what God has up his sleeve for me. God bless! 🙏🏽

RIP Kent, Tim, I was at McCambridge Park that day seeing Kent make over a hundred free throws in a row...amazing...He was our only classmate that varsity lettered in all our major sports. He was a wonderful person and I was proud to know him at Muir and BHS.

Timothy Zuma Tim Tolnay
Thanks Ed..During 8th 9th and 10th grade summers we were brothers. Kent's brother Rick would keep us out of trouble.

Larry O'Brien
Timothy Zuma Tim Tolnay thank goodness for older brothers

Larry O'Brien
Does Kent have any living relatives?

Timothy Zuma Tim Tolnay
Not that I know of Larry. His Dad died when Kent was very young. His Mom passed just after we graduated from high school and Rick passed a few years back. Gary Marca and Scott Boyd kept in touch with Kent but as the dementia set in they gave up communicating.

I'm with both of you, Marybeth and Donna, esp with respect to the perfectly chosen images - worth a thousand words - that you picked, Marybeth. It's so sad. Kent was a wonderful person who had more difficulty than he deserved, and bore it with grace and humor. And kept the rest of us laughing! A "light spirit": may it fly as gracefully to its resting place as it danced on the wind here.

  1. It is gratifying that people had the same experience of Kent as a warm and funny guy. Think of him fondly. Remember how he and Carl used to banter in class at Muir. Great guys.
