Resided in Ogden, UT

Verna Forbes Willson, BHS class of Winter 1939, died October 2, 2013, in Clearfield, Utah.

She is survived by her daughter, Linda Willson Nelson, Burbank High class of 1967 (Blaine), of Layton, UT; 5 grand children: Aaron (Krista ) Nelson of Portland, Oregon; Benjamin Nelson of Salt Lake City, Utah; David (Desirea) Nelson of Syracuse, Utah; SaraLin (David) Hart of Los Lunas, New Mexico; and Julia (John) Empaces of Henderson, Nevada; and 8 sweet great-grand children. She is also survived by her dear friend and "adopted" daughter, Margie Lee Smith, BHS class of 1967 (Martin) of Farmington, New Mexico, their 9 children and many grandchildren.

Mom loved doing genealogy, collecting antiques, exploring the desert, and stirring up a good political discussion or controversy, anytime and anywhere. She ran for mayor of Farmington, New Mexico at the age of 80 and received about a third of the votes. She had worked her way up from a Rosie the Riveter to an Avionics Engineer at Lockheed. She fought for equal rights and equal pay for women. She regretted that she could not finish college, but educated herself continually through extensive and varied reading and research, including on the internet. She savored life from the days of horse and buggy to the World Wide Web. What an exciting time to be alive!
