OBITUARY

Taffy Ann Woods
November 18, 1946 – June 6, 2024

In Loving Memory of Taffy "Tata" Ann Woods

Taffy "Tata" Ann Woods, known for her unwavering kindness and selflessness, passed away peacefully on June 6, 2024, in Arco, Idaho, at the age of 77. Born on November 18, 1946, in Los Angeles, California, Taffy leaves behind a legacy of love and compassion that will forever be cherished by those who were fortunate enough to have known her.

Predeceased by her father, Arthur Whiting, Jr, mother, Colleen Hollowwa, and step-father, Chuck Hollowwa, Jr ; Taffy is survived by her beloved son-Greg Bammel; loving and supportive sister and her husband, Darleen and Lindsay Rogers, and caring brother and his wife, Roger and Charlotte Whiting, as well as her nieces, Shannon Rogers-and her husband, Jeff Daus Davis- and Aleesa Rogers and great niece, Seleena.

Taffy's life was one filled with meaningful contributions and talents. She graduated from Burbank High School and dedicated over 30 years to the printing industry as an Office Manager/Accountant before retiring. Her commitment to her work was only surpassed by her devotion to her family and furry companions. Taffy's love for animals, from her dogs to her horses, was unparalleled, and she always ensured they were spoiled and very loved.

A woman of many skills, Taffy was not only a talented seamstress, baker, and cook but also a creative individual who excelled at everything she did. Her passion for music, playing the organ and piano, and crafting beautiful flower arrangements displayed her artistic abilities. Taffy's diverse talents extended to knitting, gift wrapping, and creating memorable decorations for parties and holidays (with Holloween and Christmas being her favorites) as well as outside landscaping with walkways and flowers. She was also a collector of plates and Christmas ornaments; especially Disney themed - and Eeyore was her favorite!

In addition to her accomplished career and hobbies, Taffy had a special bond with her siblings, her nieces, and adopted son, Greg. She was known as the best sister and aunt that ever existed, always bringing joy and adventure to those around her.

A Celebration of Life Service for Taffy took place on Sunday, July 14, 2024, at the Hilltop Restaurant in Burbank, California. In honor of her life and passion for animals, donations to Guide Dogs for the Blind or the ASPCA are kindly requested in lieu of flowers.

Taffy's absence leaves a void in the lives of those who knew her, but her spirit of generosity and creativity will continue to inspire for generations to come. She will be dearly missed but fondly remembered by all who were touched by her warmth, love and compassion for family, friends and animals.

Kathleen Ryan, BHS '74 (1956-2024)

Kathleen Ruth Ryan
August 15, 1956 - July 23, 2024

Today we received this very sad note from Pamela Gordon Ryan...

We lost my sister in law this past week Kathleen Ryan Class of 1974.

Kathleen Ruth Ryan passed away peacefully on July 23, 2024, in San Diego with her family by her side after a lengthy battle with Glioblastoma.

Kathleen was born on August 15, 1956, in Burbank, California, to Eddie and Maurine Ryan. Growing up in Burbank, she attended Washington Elementary, John Muir Junior High, and Burbank High School, graduating in 1974. Thereafter, she graduated from California State University, Northridge.

Following college, Kathleen joined the Los Angeles Police Department. Rising through the ranks, Kathleen worked as a Detective and as a patrol Sergeant where she was respected and admired by all who served alongside her. She was awarded the Police Star for her role in courageously putting her own life on the line to save another person. After a 35-year career in law enforcement, Kathleen retired in 2020.

Kathleen met her husband Andy Ryan, and they were married in 1988. Six beautiful children followed. There was nothing more important to Kathleen and Andy than their family. After Andy’s passing in 2009, Kathleen continued to raise her six children, nurturing, and developing them into the wonderful people that they are today.

Kathleen’s generosity with her family was unmatched. She loved the holidays and was the ultimate gift giver, often traveling across Southern California with her mother, Maurine, to find that special present for her kids, nephews, and great-nephews. Kathleen was extremely competitive and witty. She loved to play games (bingo was a family favorite). There were countless family dinners and holidays at her parent’s house (Eddie and Maurine). Mischievous as ever, family gatherings often descended into water fights if Kathleen found a squirt gun or a hose.

Kathleen had the biggest heart. Through her public service and her dedication to her family, she had a profound effect on innumerable lives and will be dearly missed. She is survived by her children, Cory, Ricky, Dani, Kelly, Heather, Lauren, her brother Mike (Pamela), nephews, Kyle (Stephanie, Sammy, and Leo), and Casey, her aunt Ruth Childress, cousins, Gary Childress (Caralee, Jay, and Jake) and Rick Childress (Susan and Katy Sue), and many friends. Her husband, Andy Ryan, and her parents Eddie and Maurine preceded her in death.
