Jack Amon Swartzbaugh, BHS '51 (1933-2016)
My husband Jack Amon Swartzbaugh 1933-2016
Jack graduated 1951 from BHS. He was an outstanding basketball and baseball player. He had a career in education starting st So. Pasadena HS 1958, BHS 1961-1965, Corona Del Mar HS 1965-1967, Rio Hondo College 1967-1968. In 1968 he was one of the first hired to open Saddleback College in Mission Viejo. He started out as Coord. of Activities and in 2 years became Dean of Students. He had a long and rewarding career at Saddleback and retired in 1999. He did part time counseling for 13 years after retirement. Loved SC and just couldn't leave. Jack and I had 4 children and 12 grand children. At his passing we had 1 great grandson and last Sept. out first great granddaughter was born. Family was everything to Jack. Just like his father, Amon Swartzbaugh who taught at John Muir JH from 1941-1969. "Coach " Swartzbaugh was an institution in Burbank Unified. Jack was just like his Dad. Loved coaching and teaching. Most of all they loved Burbank High School. I miss them both so much.

I also had him as a Math Teacher. He touched many young lives. He was sure a part of why I always loved math so much..

I didn't realize what an impact he had in developing the South Coast region of So. Cal. Another positive contribution to life by a Burbank grad, like Lloyd, Long and LiPera.

Mary Joan Swartzbaugh that name sounds so familiar. I attended John Muir Jr High (1953-1955), BHS class of '59. And my oldest son and I both took classes at Saddleback College in Mission Viejo. My son was on the Tennis team. The dates would be consistent. I am sure our paths crossed at some point in time.
The good news is, I didn't cringe when reading your husband's or your father-inLaw, so if we did cross paths, it must have been a good experience . Sending my condolences and prayers to you and your family. Thanks for sharing.
