Thank you to our classmate, Sharon (Welshans) Howard, for sharing some details of her dear friend and cousin-in-law, Susan (Naccarato) Mehmen.
Susan Naccarato was born May 16, 1947 and passed August 25, 1990, due to failure of kidney transplant, in Burbank at the age of 43.
Susan married Robert Mehmen in March of 1967 and raised two children: Robby, born December, 1967, who now has 4 children and Misty, born 1973. A brother, Tony, also survives her. Parents were Tony and Addie who owned the T n A Hobby Lobby on Victory Blvd on Hollywood Way.
On October 6, 2012, just one day after his 65th birthday, John Baumgartner passed away while living in Porterville, California.
John was born October 5, 1947, in Los Angeles and grew up in Burbank with his sister Debra who was also a BHS graduate class of 1969. Their parents were Mildred Lucille Robinson Baumgartner (1920 - 2007) and William Oscar Baumgartner (1919 - 1988).
After high school graduation, John joined the Navy and upon return from Vietnam, worked for the local phone company. Then he became an L.A. County Dep Sheriff before his calling to the Lutheran priesthood. John earned his Masters of Divinity from Concordia Theological Seminary. He also served as chaplain to the Tulare county Sheriffs Dept for a while.
The above information was confirmed by John's nephew, David Johnson who wrote:
"If there is anyone in that graduating class who wishes to contact me, I would certainly be appreciative. While he was our favorite uncle, we never knew a lot about him or his early life. We, my sisters and I, all live in Texas. I would love to communicate with anyone who knew him."
Obituary for Donald Rand
Donald Lee “Don” Rand, 71, died March 12, 2016 at home in Waldoboro. He was born August 14, 1944 in Glendale, California to Elmer F. Rand and Gwendolyn Y. Dunn. Don grew up in California and graduated from Burbank High School in 1962. He then attended the Chouinard Art Institute and obtained a BS in 1966.
Don operated an antique and restoration business for 12 years. He then owned and operated Merry-Go-Round in Griffith Park in Los Angeles for 10 years. Don then moved to New England and started a piano roll business and also became more interested in his art work which included line drawings, pastels and watercolors.
He was very entertaining and jovial and will be missed by many people all over the world.
Don was predeceased by his father and brother, Gary Rand.
He is survived by his mother Gwendolyn Rand of Coopers Mills, one Aunt, one nephew and many close friends.
No services will be held at this time

I knew Don or as we called him Donnie since I was a kid I grew up across the street from his mom and brother Gary, Don was incredibly talented and a great artist, he often put on little shows in the backyard where he would show 16 millimeter movie pictures, he would build a box office that he made out of cardboard painted it like a box offic, and sold candy, popcorn. charge of everybody a nickel to come in it was a lot of fun. I also remember when he made his first cartoon called tge lemon sisters... he was very talented. I also remember when he bought his first car was a 57 Chevy it was the Envy of every kid on the Block!

Terry Lee Baker, 66, born on February 1, 1948, in Glendale, California, paased away November 29, 2014. He resided in Burbank, California at the time of his passing and arrangements were under the direction of Forest Lawn, Glendale, California.
Sadly, we recently learned of the passing of John Harold Antonucci but know few details - thank you Rich Morrison for the following information:
At 65 years, John H Antonucci, passed away on June 30, 2013, while living in Orlando, Florida.
He was born September 12, 1947 to Louis and Rosemary Gatz Antonucci and lived at 2854 N Myers St, Burbank, CA, 91504 with brother Gary, BHS '68 and sister, Toni (Parker), BHS '73. Toni passed away in 2019. More about Toni HERE.
John was married to Linda A Kinard from 1966 to 1971. He then married Laura R Nau-Rini from 1972 to 1974; daughter Patricia, was born 1973. Then in 1982, he married Michele E Shults.

The county coroner has deemed his death "of natural causes." We are deeply saddened by this news and are so thankful for your continued support.

Incarcerated man IDed in '97 NoHo murders

NORTH HOLLYWOOD, Calif. -- Los Angeles police said they've identified a suspect in the 1997 killings of a 57-year-old woman and her mentally impaired 23-year-old son.
LAPD forensics investigators say over the last two years, DNA evidence and crime-fighting have worked hand in hand and have been expanded like never before. This year alone, they've been able to link nearly 50 murder cases with suspects -- some of them cold cases, leading to suspects like Rafael Martinez.
Martinez, 37, is in prison in Northern California doing hard time for manslaughter for the killing of a North Hollywood woman in 2001.
With the help of DNA evidence, detectives have now linked Martinez to the brutal stabbing deaths of 57-year-old Nancy Boehm and her 23-year-old mentally impaired son, Shawn Boehm.
It was a cold-case double murder that happened in 1997. The victims were found in their North Hollywood homes.
For years, North Hollywood detectives worked to crack the case. Initially, DNA testing did not help.
"During that time, we did not possess the technology that was necessary to conduct a thorough investigation to the level that we have today," said LAPD Lt. Alan Hamilton.
Earlier this year, LAPD Criminologist Patricia Huck was asked to examine the DNA samples taken from the crime scene that had been put into a U.S. Dept. of Justice database.
"I thought that there was a good possibility that I might be able to deduce, or extract out -- which basically means kind of to interpret -- another profile in that mixture under the fingernails of Nancy Boehm, which were a mixture of her and an unknown male," said Huck.
Huck got a partial match, leading to Martinez.
Detectives say the 2001 murder that landed Martinez in prison is similar to the 1997 double murders.
"Essentially no bones about it, it's narcotics-related," said LAPD Detective Tom Townsend.
Detectives say Nancy Boehm was a drug dealer. When Martinez allegedly went to her home to buy drugs, she and her son were killed.
"The 2001 case -- that female victim Liz Nieves -- also sold narcotics," said Townsend. "And Mr. Martinez had gone over there to purchase a quantity of narcotics as well. They were both killed in a similar manner: stabbed and slashed."
Detectives say they believe that between 1997 and 2001, Martinez could be linked to several other violent crimes in the North Hollywood area.
