We are very sorry to share the following post from Eddie's son Allen on Facebook this past Friday, May 19, 2023. Please keep the family in your prayers which include sibblings Jo Elaine Morton, BHS '67. Jim Morton/Morton Davis, BHS' 68 and Cathy Morton, BHS '75. Also, in 2020, Ed's other son, Charlie died while fighting a fire in Southern Calif. Heartbreaking...

When you find the fellas have a fish fry and a cold beer for me.

I’ll never forget the time we spent together.

 

My dad always encouraged me to be a great artist. We would draw and paint together as a kid. As I grew up and found inspiration in graffiti he would drive me around LA to photograph pieces. We’d walk right through neighbors hoods we had no other business in. We’d spend all kinds of gas and money on this. He introduced me to computers. Before I knew what graffiti magazines were he taught me how to scan images and collage on his computer. We built things. We laid tile. We fished. 

 

I woke up once in college and began crying and hyperventilating. My body was out of control. I showered and drive to work. All the while unable to stop. I was a mess. I called my pops and was like, “I can’t stop, I don’t know what’s wrong with.” he told me, you’re learning things the easy way. I went to war and your in school. A good leader won’t lead himself and his team to death. You need to take break. You need to rest. 

 

He was full of anecdotes. One of my favorites is a story Chuck told me. Chuck was depressed living in Chico. He got drunk and was crying in the rain. He told my pops, “I’d give anything to be anywhere but here right now.” My dad said, “I remember that feeling once. I left you boys after a fight with your mom without saying goodbye and found myself in the jungle. With 18 year old kids who could barley hold a rifle. The gorillas were coming and I thought, I’d rather be anywhere but here right now.”

 

He met my mom after Vietnam and they moved to Oceanside where he was a street cop, gang task force leader, detective and retired a sergeant. 

 

He got a masters degree in international business. Became a CPA after years of hard work. 

 

Eventually he would be hired by DFAS and then the department of the state. 

 

Post 9/11 he applied to work in Iraq and later he would volunteer to transfer to Afghanistan

Terry Saurwein, BHS '70 (1952-2023)

 

Terence "Terry" Dean Saurwein. BHS '70

May 6, 1952 - May 9, 2023

Terry Saurwein passed away on May 9, 2023 as the result of emphysema and COPD.  He had just turned 71 three days before his passing.  He lived in Riverside.  Terry grew up on Dartmouth Rd. in Burbank along with his siblings.  He attended Catholic School for elementary school, then began at John Muir during junior high, and then BHS in the 1970 Class.

Terry's wife, Colleen, passed away about four years ago.  Her passing affected Terry greatly.  Among family that Terry leaves behind are his older sister, Suzanne Saurwein Humphrey, and also a step-son, along with other family members.

The BHS '70 In Memoriam list now numbers 79 classmates.
