WHISKEY BEND

Celebrating the Whiskey Bend.
Whiskey Bend Crew·Sunday, March 3, 2019·
The Whiskey Bend was a neighborhood Burbank bar for 40 years. Owned by the Elliot family, the property passed on from father to son, Bill Elliot, and then to brother Bobby Elliot. The Whiskey Bend was Bill’s vision as Burbank’s first dance club, replacing Jerry’s Place, the bar his father had owned. It was the era of Disco, early 1970’s, and the place packed them in. Many would attribute the Whiskey Bend’s longevity to its cozy environment and unpretentiousness; always catering to the local residents where many shared first dates, first kisses, and began life long relationships. There are few who grew up in Burbank that did not pass through its doors. This page is where we celebrate that.

The Whiskey Bend was sold in 2015 after over 40 years.

OBITUARY

ILLY ELLIOT Age 62, a long time Burbank resident and local business owner, suffering from long term illness, died peacefully at his home in Burbank. Billy as born in Brooklyn, New York on December 8, 1944, son of Wister "Whip" and Helena Ulko Elliot. The family moved to Burbank in 1954 where Billy attended Burbank High School. In his early years he served our country in the United States Army, being honorably discharged in 1968. In 1972, Billy was wed to Erline Smith. This partnership had difficulties with resulting break-up. However, their warm friendship continued. In 1968, following the death of his father, Billy acquired "Jerry's", a local cocktail lounge, which is still thriving today. However, in tune with the imminent Disco era, in 1974, he replaced the old worn out building with the new, including name change and "Whiskey Bend" be came the first night club with dancing in Burbank. The tradition of "Jerry's" continues in the "Whiskey Bend" as a local entertainment spot where friends and colleagues meet in a comfortable neighborhood atmosphere. Billy's dedication to his patrons was well known, and "all of us" will miss and, yes, remember the quick smile or funny quip for which he was well known, a young man dedicated to his friends to the very end. Thank you, Billy, Godspeed on your new journey. A service will be held at Forest Lawn Hollywood Hills, Monday, June 18, 2007, 3:00 p.m.
