Robert Harry Lovejoy
August 29, 1948 - July 7, 2018
Just received the sad news of the passing of Bob Lovejoy from his sister, Lynn (Lovejoy) Volgraff, BHS '65:
Bob passed away yesterday. He had massive stroke on Friday. I got to be with him and his family when they took him off life support and he passed away quickly. No pain. We are all in shock and now the real work will begin since he had 2 delis. the Three Pickles and the Pickle Room in Santa Barbara. He leaves wife Dawn, Son Clay and daughter Athena, along with 3 grandchildren.
Please keep Lynn and all the family in your thoughts and prayers.
Bob was well loved in his community and here are a few articles from the local Santa Barbara newspaper:

No... so sad. 😪 RIP Fellow Bulldog.
I can still see a very young ....skinny....fun loving kid running around the gym field in way over sized shorts.
Bob was just very up lifting....fun to be around...I thought he was a young version of Ricky Nelson......
Short Story....a BULLY was picking on him and he was trying to make light of it. The Bully pushed Bob....just then this girl came flying in a hit the BULLY......THEN A GROUP OF GIRLS STARTED SCREAMING AT THE BULLY....HEY PICK ON SOMEONE YOUR OWN SIZE.....Everybody loved this little skinny kid.....
I last saw Bob and DEBBIE BRANDON at the San Diego Zoo...Bob had grown into a man and we had a nice talk....
I hope that your life was good....your dreams realized.....

Bob Lovejoy Dies
Bob Lovejoy, owner and cocreator of the Pickle Room and the Three Pickles sandwich shops, died last weekend after suffering either an aneurysm or massive stroke.
Born in 1947, Lovejoy got into the bar-and-restaurant business relatively late in life after a successful career as a contractor. In 2006, Lovejoy opened the first Three Pickles on East Canon Perdido Street at the site of the present day Handlebar coffee shop. At a time when local businesses are struggling to find a toehold, Lovejoy — who opened the shop with his son Clay — instantly attracted a loyal clientele of downtown workers, which has only expanded since.
Lovejoy’s true civic accomplishment, however, was the reincarnation of Jimmy’s Oriental Gardens, a signature downtown bar and restaurant located next door to the current Three Pickles. Lovejoy had long been a regular at Jimmy’s and managed to capture its essence and spirit — not to mention vibe and look — when he opened the Pickle Room in 2013.
