Lorraine Marie Moore Piela, BHS '72 (1954-1974)

Lorraine Marie Moore Piela
April 5, 1954 - August 5, 1974

In school, Lorraine went by her middle name, Marie.

She is remembered as a very sweet and goodhearted girl.

Tragically, she was killed by a drunk driver while she and her husband were riding bikes in Mountain View, California.

Marie's husband's name was Jan Piela. They had been married about 6 weeks before the accident.

We send our deepest condolences and prayers to her family.

Thank you, Connie Wilmore Schweitzer, for providing the details.

  1. Thank you so much for this post! My name is Loraine Marie Moore and I was named after my aunt Marie. I showed this post to my dad who was her brother and he was very surprised and appreciative to find that someone was thinking about her.

If anyone has any information about Jan Piela, we would appreciate hearing from you as my family has been trying to get in contact with him for quite some time now. Thank you again!

  2. Hi Loraine, I am so sorry about the passing of your aunt. I see you spell your name with one 'r'. Did I misspell your aunt's name?

Regarding Jan Piela, it looks like they were married May 17, 1974. Do you know his age or about when he was born or any other information about him? His name makes me think he may have been from another country? Poland? Anything you can think of to help us to locate him. If you have a photo of him, you could email it to me at

Thanks and again, my deepest condolences to you and your family.

  4. Hi Cathy,

Don't worry, you spelled her name correctly. Thank you so much for the information. The last my family had heard of Jan was that he was living in Florida, so that may be his information. We will definitely look into it! Thank you so much again!
