FACEBOOK COMMENT from Matt Denny

He was 1981, trumpet in the marching band. First wife some know, Tonya Haggard '82, sister of Steve Haggard '81, who is also deceased.
I believe he passed from undiagnosed COVID. He had lived in the Springs since his first marriage began.
I miss him dearly, He was one of those friends you could count on for virtually anything, the kind of friend you could skip talking to for 10 years and you'd pick right up were you left off.
RIP.

Randy Prescott, BHS '68 (1950-2023)

Alfred Randall Prescott
April 19, 1950 - November 17, 2023

We are sad to share that Merrily Prescott just posted on Facebook that Randy Prescott passed away on Friday.

May God comfort and bless her and the family we pray.

OBITUARY

Alfred Randall "Randy" Prescott passed away on November 17, 2023, in Alexandria, Virginia, at 73 years of age.  He is survived by his wife of 36 years, Diane Prescott; his children Tracy Egelin, Jenny Prescott, Teddy Prescott, Christie Prescott, and Katie Poling; his sons-in-law Mike Egelin and Paul Poling; his daughter-in-law Stephanie Prescott; his grandchildren Ethan Mendez and Liam Prescott; his first wife and mother of his daughter Tracy, Merrily Prescott; and his sister Terry Prescott Collings.

On April 19, 1950, Randy was born in Burbank, California to Alfred Clayton Prescott and Doris Mills Prescott.  He joined his sisters Terry Prescott Collings and Carole Prescott Smith.  Randy graduated from Burbank High, where he excelled in mathematics and on the golf team.  He then attended UC Irvine, where he majored in mathematics and lived with friends on Balboa Island, one of his favorite spots in Orange County.  He loved shenanigans and once infamously brought a cow into his dorm as a joke.

Randy had a long career as a software engineer in the aerospace industry, working at the Jet Propulsion Laboratory and for Univac, Lockheed, and then The Boeing Company, where he spent 25 years.  He was passionate about his work, which included projects related to satellites, missile defense, and fighter jets, among others. It was at JPL where Randy met Diane DeFranco, and they married in August 1987.  They moved to Orange County, California in 1988, where they raised their kids by the beach and attended Calvary Chapel Costa Mesa.  The family relocated to Alexandria, Virginia between 2011 and 2012 when Randy began a job in missile defense.

Since retiring in 2014, Randy was very involved in his new community in Alexandria, Virginia.  He devoted much of his time to volunteer work—tutoring children in reading and math, teaching at-risk youth how to build boats, leading classes on computer literacy for adults, and providing animal therapy with his beloved Australian Shepherd, Josie.  He also spent most mornings taking Josie on long walks and spending time at the park with his dog-loving friends.

Randy was an outgoing, fun-loving Californian, always finding adventures and bringing humor wherever he went.  He loved spending every free moment outdoors, especially catamaran racing, kayaking, hiking, skiing, biking, and camping.  Some of his other favorite activities included playing guitar, telling humorous stories, competing in (and watching his children play) sports, and taking family on trips.

The two most important things in Randy's life were his faith and his family.  He was very involved in church throughout his life and he raised his children to be faithful and know God.  He particularly loved attending events at Calvary and reading the Charles Stanley Devotional Bible.  He also made sure his kids knew the importance of classic rock and the superiority of Seinfeld as a TV show.  Thanks to Randy, Diane's and his kids' lives were full of adventures ranging from beach camping in San Diego, to many trips to Disneyland, and to hiking in Yosemite.  Randy's most recent joys were helping his grandson Ethan learn to play soccer and meeting his newest grandson, Liam. Randy will be remembered for his humor, his large personality, his love for adventure, his intelligence, and his care for his family.

In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to Randy's church.  Checks can be made payable to Alexandria Presbyterian Church, 1300 W Braddock Road, Alexandria, VA 22302, or you can visit www.alexandriapres.org/give.

Rubin Rodriguez, BHS '78 (1960-2023)

Sad news posted on Facebook by Michael Stewart...

I’m sad to announce that Rubin Rodriguez Class of 1978 died on November 16th 2023 due to complications of Cancer. He is survived by His wife Kathy, His Children Rubin lll, Tristan and Olivia, and His Father Rubin.

OBITUARY

Rubin Rodriguez
July 20, 1960 — November 16, 2023
Farmington Utah

Rubin Rodriguez Jr. passed away on November 16, 2023. Rubin survived numerous heart attacks, Stage 4 Tonsil Cancer, a quadruple bypass, and finally succumbed to Stage 4 Colon Cancer and lung disease. Rubin was born on July 20, 1960, to Froydis Johansen and Ruben Rodriguez Sr.

Rubin grew up in Rose Park, UT and Burbank, CA where he attended Burbank High School. His passions included competitive swimming, surfing, ultimate frisbee, and skateboarding. Rubin was an entrepreneur at heart. From a young age, he and his friends had various businesses during his time in California. Rubin enlisted as a Marine at 17 years old and served as a helicopter mechanic. He had several opportunities throughout his 30+ years in broadcasting to make friends and associates all over the country, with his favorite being Jackson Hole TV.

Rubin “Happy Pappy” exuded so much life and laughter. His love for his family and dogs made his days memorable. He loved everything that let him feel the wind on his face—whether it was on his skateboard, surfing, riding a motorcycle or a boat, or in his Jeep with the top off and the windows down. He loved being in the mountains, at the beach, or on road trips with his family. Rubin loved to fish and spent many days fishing in Lake Powell, Strawberry, or Big Bear. Rubin loved to ski in his youth with his uncles. He was an excellent pool player, playing in leagues for years that lead to him bringing home a few too many trophies. Rubin had a love for rock ‘n’ roll music and watching football or NASCAR. You could often hear him singing around the house or in the car to Elvis Presley, Bruce Springsteen, or Jimmy Buffet. He loved to listen to music too loud, so he could sing even louder. He was a wannabe chef, an amateur movie critic, and a natural comedian. Rubin loved to make people laugh—nothing brought him more joy than to laugh with others, especially his children. His laugh was loud and contagious and often times made any joke funnier with how hard he made himself laugh. He coined the name “Happy Pappy” because he wanted to be known for being a source of happiness.

Though Rubin battled many health problems in the last several years of his life, his family and close friends made his days worth living. He had many times that he defied the odds to see another day. His absence has been felt by those who knew and loved him.

Rubin is preceded in death by his mother Froydis, sister Vivian Smith, his beloved grandparents, and many other loved ones and dear dogs. He is survived by his wife, Kathy, his father, Ruben, and children Olivia (Casey) Creager, Jordan Wager, Rubin Rodriguez III, and Tristan Quinn Rodriguez, along with his 6 grandchildren and sisters Rita and Sonja and several nieces and nephews, whom he loved dearly.

A viewing will be held Friday, November 24th from 6 PM-8 PM at Russon Mortuary, 1941 North Main Street Farmington, UT. The funeral will be held Saturday, November 25th at 10 AM at Russon Mortuary in Farmington. An additional viewing will take place prior to the service on Saturday morning from 9 AM to 9:45 AM.

Services will be streamed live on the Russon Brothers Mortuary Facebook page and on this obituary page. The live stream will begin 10-15 minutes prior to the service and will be posted below.

Rubin was passionate about bringing awareness to the hardship that fighting cancer can cause. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you make donations to the American Cancer Society or American Heart Association.

Mark Anders Franzen
May 28, 1945 - October 28, 2023

Danielle Aimee Tarjoman recently posted this sad news on Facebook...

Heartbroken & shocked. The man who walked me down the isle, passed away suddenly and tragically, Saturday morning. Uncle Mark… I can’t even come to terms with this. You were the reason my life turned out the way it did. You guided me, offered me a roof over my head, consoled me, comforted me, loved me for who I was, with no filters… took me in as if I were one of your own. I owe literally everything to you. You gave me that chance I so desperately wanted and needed in California. You held my hand while walking me down the isle. You loved this little family I created, more than I ever expected. You texted me at all the right times. You let me vent when my heart was hurting. You gave me such great advice. What am I supposed to do now?

My life won’t be the same without. I love you so much. You leaving, has taken huge part of my heart and soul. I will miss your smile, your laugh and your jokes. Your kind and selfless heart and eyes. Your unique point of view and the way you looked at life.

Life isn’t going to be the same without you. But the sad truth is that when I hugged you in California, I felt that was the last time I’d ever hug you. I cried so hard that day… just as hard as I’m crying now. I wish we made it back to California, one last time, so I could give you one last hug. Your hugs were the best. I love you and will forever miss you…..

…. To the moon 🌙 and back.
